Our Story

In June 2020, the COVID lockdowns gave us something we weren’t used to having—spare time.

We had just purchased a 10-acre lifestyle block in Kinloch, and with a bit of unexpected downtime, we had an idea: let’s plant some Christmas trees!

Every December, we’d go searching for a rogue wild pine on the roadside to bring home and decorate. So, with a bit of land at our disposal, it felt like the perfect time to start growing our own. And just like that, our side hustle began—with 150 tiny pine tree seedlings and a whole lot of optimism.

How hard can it be to grow a Christmas tree, right...?

Famous last words

Our first batch of trees didn’t stand a chance against the thriving local rabbit population. But instead of giving up, we got to work rabbit-proofing the paddock and tried again. In 2021, we went bigger (and bolder), planting 700 seedlings. This was when the real learning curve began. It wasn’t just about keeping trees alive—it was about shaping them into full, lush Christmas trees worthy of any living room.

As life got busier and the “COVID spare time” ran out, the real work kicked in. We found ourselves mowing huge paddocks every couple of weeks, keeping grass down around the young trees, pruning, shearing, spraying, and of course—fending off more rabbits.

By 2022, our enthusiasm dipped slightly (only 400 trees planted that year!), but that’s when we discovered one of the most satisfying parts of the job: shaping the trees. There's something oddly enjoyable about swinging a samurai sword around while giving a tree its festive form!

We’ve kept chipping away at our little tree farm ever since. In 2024, we sold our first few trees, and let me tell you—each one felt like a small victory.

We’re still learning as we go, and while our trees might not all be Instagram-perfect, they smell amazing—and the experience is as real as it gets. Wandering the paddocks with your family, choosing the perfect tree straight from the field, is what it’s all about. It’s a laid-back, hands-on Christmas tradition we’re proud to share.

Now, after 4½ years of growing, learning, and laughing, we’re excited to finally open to the public for the 2025 Christmas season. This feels like a big milestone, and we’re so proud to share our journey with you.

Thanks for stopping by—we hope you’ll follow along as we share the highs and lows of growing Christmas trees, inch by inch.
